Packing For Success

You’ve laid out everything you need.  Clothes?  Check.  Toiletries?  Check.  Camera? Check.  What else do you need?

Here’s a few recommended items for packing for a school trip abroad:

Planning a school trip abroad can be a daunting thought and packing for it can be just as nerve-racking while ensure you don’t forget anything.  At the Learning Adventure, we’re here to help you every step of the way.  In addition to the packing lists we send to teachers and students going on each of our educational tours, here is a list of a few recommended items that are frequently forgotten:

  • A copy of all students’ travel documents, such as passports, visas, ID cards, etc. and their medical information. If a student is taking medication, double check that they have enough of the medication with them, just in case!
  • Toilet paper/tissue paper as some countries don’t provide this necessity in public restrooms. Hand sanitizer and baby wipes are also handy too!
  • Sun cream for sunny days.
  • Snacks in case you’re a picky eater or take a little longer adjusting to foreign cuisines.
  • A small padlock. Although we’ve never had a participant experience a theft, it’s better to be safe than sorry. They also make great makeshift zipper handles and bag ties while you’re on the go!

Other Advice To Keep In Mind

  • PACK LIGHT. Remember, the packing list we provide you with isn’t a mandatory packing list, but rather a general list you can pick and choose from for items that best meets the requirements of your trip. The best piece of advice we can give you as you prepare for your school trip is to pack light.  You’re going to be carrying your bag with you during the trip and we’re sure you wouldn’t want to use your bag for a make-up gym day.  You’d be surprised about how many things you actually don’t need.  Packing light, however, doesn’t mean going into the trip unprepared.  Rather, go through the itinerary, the weather forecasts, and anything else that could be an indicator of what your day-to-day trip will be like and pack the essentials accordingly.
  • BRING LAYERS. Weather can change suddenly. Rather than bringing an outfit for every possible weather condition you might face, a sweatshirt, long trousers, and a rain jacket can go a long way.
  • REPEAT OUTFITS. Don’t worry, you won’t be running into any paparazzi on the trip, so it’s okay to wear the same outfit twice. For a week of travel, you could get away with only three outfits and with a little bar of detergent soap, you could do laundry frequently in your bathroom sink, if needed.
  • Leading a class trip might seem overwhelming, but don’t let the stress keep you from having a good time. This is a break from the classroom for you too.  Relax, breathe, and have fun!
