Student trips to Italy are filled with a myriad of educational opportunities and that’s why it’s one of our favourite destinations for our Learning Adventures. For history students, there’s a treasure trove of sights to discover and we have a series of trips focusing on the nation’s incredible past. For art lovers- Italy is a true playground filled with some of the most appealing places in the world. Plus- we have trips tailored around business, geography and culture. This blog will focus on a few of our favourite aspects of a student trip to Italy. Whilst the headline-grabbing attractions are featured on our tours- we also love to discover some of the cultural aspects of Italy that make it great. Here’s a selection of some of the awesome activities available in Italy.

Herculaneum

There’s a whole plethora of options to pick from when it comes to classical sites to explore in Italy. Visiting Naples is a great way to visit some of the most renowned sights. Chief amongst these is Pompeii and it’s undoubtedly a fascinating place to visit and we include this on our Naples itinerary. However, we’d also advise paying a visit to the nearby Herculaneum which also offers an abundance of cultural intrigue.

This site is incredibly well preserved and wandering amidst the various rooms offers a truly unique snapshot into what life must have looked like in a bygone era. The reason it is so well preserved is due to the fact it was buried under 16 metres of ash after the eruption of Vesuvius. This meant that the domus (homes) were saved and you can therefore peak inside the rooms and see the features of the places. This has enabled historians and even regular tourists to gain a real insight into what life must have been like for the residents. Furthermore, it’s possible to wander around the site in 2-3 hours and gain a real overview of the key points. This means there’s time to explore more of nearby Naples and, of course, sample the city’s famous Neapolitan pizzas.

Ferrari Museum

Nothing quite screams Italy quite like the idea of a Ferrari. Cool, classy and sophisticated this vehicle reflects a certain part of the Italian identity and has become something of a cultural symbol for the nation. On our business student trip to Italy- we take part in a workshop at the Ferrari museum and learn more about the engineering behind the car. You can discover more about how the cars are made and how they optimise the performance for racing. Plus – gain an insight into the role these cars have played in Italian history can culture. If you fancy an adrenaline hit – then take some time in the simulator and experience what it’s like to harness the power of these creatures on the roads.

Food

This brings us neatly onto another favourite aspect of all of our student trips to Italy: the food. This has been one of the country’s most famous and popular exports and pizzas are a vital part of our East Coast Tour in the USA too. Whilst on a trip to Italy- we’d advise trying a real range of the delicious cuisine on offer and we’ll be sure to take you to a variety of places. However, sampling the staples is definitely recommended and there’s a real range of pasta and pizza dishes for you to get your teeth into. Each region has their own speciality when it comes to pasta dishes and Rome is no different. The four Roman favourites are: carbonara, amatriciana, cacio e pepe and gricia so be sure to try one of them as a way of refuelling on a Roman sightseeing day.

Eataly Farm Visit

For food lovers, you can learn even more about the Italian cuisine with a trip to Eataly World. This is the Disney World of Italian gastronomy but instead of Mickey and Donald- the stars of the show are the Italian chefs and farmers who help create the country’s rich culinary heritage. This farm showcases the diversity of the cuisine and you can explore this by learning more about how it is made. There’s workshops, markets and restaurants aplenty and you can discover the step by step journey from field to fork. With more and more emphasis on sustainability and a focus on where our food comes from- this type of project is of vital importance. Plus – the food here is truly heavenly.
