Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Washington DC

  • Arrive into one of Washington DC’s international airports where our enthusiastic Adventure Leaders will be waiting for you, waving our TLA flag.
  • Enjoy your first experiences in the nation’s capital on an “Introduction to DC” tour. See the Monuments of the Mall and visit the most famous residence in the world at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, better known as the White House!

Day 2: Visit to the Supreme Court

  • For your first morning, take a visit to the Supreme Court. Listen to a courtroom lecture which introduces students to the judicial functions of the Supreme Court, the history of the building, and the architecture of the Courtroom.
  • Afterwards, take a tour of President Lincoln’s Cottage, which places his experiences here within the larger context of the Civil War and America’s struggle to reconcile competing definitions of liberty and equality.
  • It’s time to take part in an award-winning programme called ‘Lincoln’s Toughest Decisions: Debating Emancipation’, which exposes students to the different perspectives of President Lincoln’s adversaries, allies, and friends.
  • After the University tour, enjoy some free time exploring the nearby shops on K Street and Waterfront Park.

Day 3: Congress, museum visits and bowling

  • For your last day in Washington D.C. you’ll see the buildings and surrounding grounds of Congress, the legislative branch of the US federal government.
  • Take a walk through the stunning Library of Congress, which serves the US Congress and is the national library of the US.
  • After lunch, learn more about the culture of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, as you visit the National Museum of the American Indian.
  • You’ll then get the opportunity to explore one of DC’s newer and already most loved museums, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. This museum is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture.
  • In the evening, take time to enjoy a game of bowling.

Day 4: Rocky Steps, University of Pennsylvania and New York

  • Set out on a road trip, stopping at Philadelphia and ending just outside of New York.
  • Once you’ve arrived, your adventure leaders will guide you on a “Life, Liberty and Happiness” tour of Philadelphia, exploring famous attractions like the Rocky Steps, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.
  • Enjoy a campus tour of the University of Pennsylvania and learn more about Ivy League universities.
  • Hop back on the bus and continue on to New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York.
  • At your final destination for the day, take a visit to the Liberty State Park to enjoy views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

Day 5: United Nations, World Trade Center & Columbia visit

  • For your first full day in New York, take a tour of United Nations. Whilst there, watch an online briefing from a UN expert on a range of topics, from peacekeeping and human rights to the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as a general overview of the work of the organization and its history.
  • Visit the site of the World Trade Center. You’ll see how New Yorkers have built back stronger after the 9/11 terror attacks as you head up to the One World Observatory perched at the top of the tallest tower in the western hemisphere, One World Trade Center.
  • Explore one of the most esteemed institutes of higher learning in the USA, Columbia. Today, the Ivy League university is celebrated for its academic reputation and striking architecture.
  • In the evening, enjoy a NYC pizza and cheesecake party!

Day 6: Sunday service, MET, boat ride and Times Square

  • In the morning, walk in the footsteps of civil rights leaders led by a Harlem born-and-raised tour guide, who will discuss the lives of Malcolm X, Dr. Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and many others, as you take in this culturally and historically important neighborhood.
  • You will feel like singing Hallelujah after experiencing Sunday service at a Harlem Gospel church.
  • Home to over two million works, the MET, is arguably the world’s greatest encyclopedic art museum! Journey through 5,000 years of human artistic and cultural expression and discover the treasures and secrets of this icon!
  • In the afternoon, board a jetboat for a high-octane ride down the Hudson to take in views of the Statue of Liberty.
  • In the evening, explore Times Square, the bustling, billboard-lit center of Manhattan, known as ‘the crossroads of the world’.

Day 7: Boston, Yale University and trivia night

  • You’re off to your new destination, board your private coach to Boston, and enjoy the scenic ride through New England en route to New Haven, Connecticut.
  • Learn about Yale‘s history, architecture and traditions on this student led tour of the legendary Ivy league University, founded in 1701.
  • Enjoy a trivia night and try to recall some of the facts your adventure leaders have shared with you during the trip!

Day 8: Harvard University, MIT, Freedom trail and Fenway Park

  • In the morning, head across the Charles River to explore Cambridge, an academic heartland of America. Take a walking tour of the campus of Harvard University before exploring some of its fabulous museums.
  • Visit MIT to learn about the application processes, professional development courses, or the university experience itself.
  • Take a walking tour along the historic Freedom Trail, passing revolutionary landmarks as you go and stopping at the Boston Common, Park Street Church, and the Granary Burying Ground.
  • Enjoy a tour of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team and one of America’s most loved ballparks. If a game is on this evening, the tour will be replaced with tickets to the game!

Day 9: Whale-watching

  • For your last full day, visit Plymouth, Massachusetts, the iconic Pilgrim landing site, famous for her colonial charm and coastal beauty. Enjoy lunch with views out over the Atlantic.
  • Set sail for a spot of whale-watching. View these impressive sea creatures as they feed in the cold North Atlantic waters off Cape Cod.
  • Head to Back Bay, where the enchanting Boston Public Library is located. Browse the books and enjoy the Renaissance-style architecture and murals by John Singer Sargent. Afterwards, soak up the atmosphere in Copley Square.

Day 10: Farewell

  • Return to Boston’s Logan Airport to board your flight home.
