Day 1: Arrival

  • Students will touch down in Xi’an, ready for the start of their culture and history trip! They’ll meet their Adventure Leader at the airport, and they’ll help them transfer to their accommodation.
  • After arriving, students will have a trip briefing with the Adventure Leader. Alongside running through the next 5 days of the itinerary, they’ll also introduce students to the local culture and provide some tips for adjusting to local life, while also explaining the best ways to stay safe while they travel.
  • Once the students have settled in, they will get to explore another side to China in Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter, which blends Chinese and Islamic influences. Here they will try Chinese cuisine with Middle Eastern influences.
  • To end their first day, students will take an evening stroll to see the Drum and Bell Towers lit up at night.

Day 2: Terracotta Warriors & Great Wild Goose Pagoda

  • For their first morning, students will discover the 2,000 year old Terracotta Warriors, sometimes referred to as the eighth wonder of the world.
  • After lunch, they will get to unleash their creativity in a terracotta warrior workshop. Students will learn how the clay guardians were made as they make their own replica warrior.
  • Students will then get the chance to marvel at the many-tiered Great Wild Goose Pagoda. This sacred Buddhist temple has stood over a millennium of history, culture, and spiritual devotion in China’s ancient capital.
  • As the sun sets, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda Night Market comes alive with a symphony of sights, sounds, and flavors. Stroll through the vibrant lantern-lit streets, tastefully adorned with colorful stalls that sell a vast array of traditional architecture, local delicacies, handicrafts, clothing, and vibrant trinkets.

Day 3: Calligraphy, Bike Ride & Chang'an

  • It’s time for students to try their hand at the art of calligraphy, specifically on a shanzi- Chinese traditional fan, within the hallowed grounds of this revered structure.
  • Students will then hit the ground running (or cycling) with a bike ride around the top of Xi’an’s ancient city walls. Students can look over the city and try to spot the next few locations they’re visiting.
  • In the evening, enjoy a Chang’an (the ancient name of Xi’an) Performance, comprised of music and dance that originated in the Tang dynasty. Prepare to witness performances of several famous pieces and the use of some traditional local instruments.

Day 4: Mt. Qinling, Cooking Class & Banquet Dinner

  • For their last full day, students will hike around the Mt. Qinling area where they can expend some energy, enjoy the fresh air, and take in some breathtaking views.
  • For lunch, students will get to prepare their own delicious feast by making Biang Biang Mian.
  • In the evening, students will come together for a banquet dinner for the end the trip. Decorations, music, and speeches may also be included to create a memorable and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • It’s a time to reflect on the experiences of the trip, bond with classmates and educators, and create lasting memories before heading back home.

Day 5: Farewell

  • Sadly, today marks the end of your Learning Adventure to Xi’an. We’ll transfer back to the airport, ready for you to head home.
