Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Manila

  • Arrive at the start of your Learning Adventure where our enthusiastic Adventure Leaders will be waiting for you, waving our TLA flag.
  • After arrival, you will be provided with a Trip Briefing. Your Adventure Leaders will explain details about your travel plans, give advice on how to adapt to the local culture and outline how you will stay safe during your travels.
  • After you get settled in, discover Intramuros, Manila’s 16th-century walled city, on an eco-friendly bamboo bike. Through your bike tour, you’ll get to see Fort Santiago, Plaza Roma, and San Agustin Church, recognized by UNESCO with World Heritage status.

Day 2: El Nido, The Earth School and campfire

  • On your first morning, you will catch a flight across the ocean out to El Nido. Direct to the heart of Paradise.
  • Once you have arrived, you will visit The Earth School, where you will be welcomed by the camp coordinator.
  • Enjoy an orientation session, learning about the day-to-day activities of the week ahead and a briefing of the facility and introduction of all of what the Earth School do.
  • In the evening you will sit around a campfire with the instructors, demonstrating fire safety and some basic survival techniques.

Day 3: Kayaking and beach games

  • Today, you will head out for a full day of kayaking around some of the most spectacular lagoons, bays and coastlines in the world!
  • Set off through the mangroves learning all about this unique and vulnerable eco system. You will also head out around Lagen Island with possible sightings of Manta rays, friendly whale sharks and even dolphins and whales.
  • After lunch enjoy some fun beach games.

Day 4: Marine conservationist and snorkelling

  • Embark on a boat trip with a Canadian marine conservationist and his team, who will provide an in-depth presentation on the diverse species and habitats that make Palawan’s waters so extraordinary.
  • After the presentation, you’ll have the chance to snorkel in the shallows, guided by safety experts, for an up-close encounter with one of Southeast Asia’s most stunning coral reefs. This unforgettable journey will leave you with a lasting appreciation for marine biodiversity and conservation efforts.
  • After dinner experience an inspiring theater presentation. Through captivating performances, you’ll witness traditional storytelling, music, and dance that reflect the deep-rooted customs of the local community.

Day 5: Wildlife photography and rainforest hike

  • Today you will meet a professional wildlife photographer who is also a Marine Scientist to learn about nature photography in the context of conservation. You’ll even get the chance to learn how to snap some of the local species for yourself.
  • After your photography session, get ready to venture into the rainforest on a fantastic hike to spot some incredible local and migratory birds. Put your photography skills to the test and snap the best picture!  Once you return to The Earth School, you will learn how to create a photo frame from natural materials and print your photo.
  • In the evening, the skills you have learned throughout the day will be showcased into a group presentation all sharing your pictures in a gallery.

Day 6: Archaeology adventure and djembe performance

  • Dive into an exciting cave archaeology adventure. You’ll explore ancient formations during a guided cave tour and engage in hands-on learning by participating in an archaeological excavation, using stone tools just like early humans.
  • In the afternoon, you’ll have the experience of a lifetime learning to play the djembe, a traditional percussion hand drum. The session will culminate in small group rehearsals, as you prepare for an evening performance. Local children from the community will join in, forming a giant drum circle that celebrates the unity of global cultures.
  • Get ready to showcase your newfound skills in an unforgettable evening performance!

Day 7: Manila and reflection session

  • You will fly from El Nido across to Manila on a 1.5 hour flight.
  • On the last night, there will be a chance for students, faculty and adventure leaders to come together for a reflection session. Through discussion, listening and guided thought, participants can process their experiences, digest new ideas and consider what they have learned about the region, its people and themselves during the trip.

Day 8: Home time

  • It’s time to head back home. We hope that your trip will leave you with a feeling of increased confidence, knowledge, understanding and yearning for your next adventure!
