If you haven’t already heard, The Learning Adventure has recently launched educational day trips in the UK. We spoke to our UK School Trips Officer, Maria, to find out more about what’s on offer.

Our first wave of itineraries includes Art & Design, Business & Start-ups, Economics & Finance, Engineering & Computer Science, and Politics & Law. Keep reading to find out what’s unique about our day trips and the process behind designing these trips.

Why are field trips important for students?

Students are more likely to retain information if they’re immersed in it and involved in engaging activities. Being in a new environment fosters curiosity and encourages the development of social, personal and academic skills. Plus, “well-planned out-of-classroom activities, which include trips, not only enhance pupils’ learning but can also re-engage those who are hard to motivate” (Ofsted, “How far should you go?”, 2008).

Why did you want to make these trips?

We noticed that there is a void in the current UK school trip offering. A lot of current school trips are still based on wandering around a museum with worksheets. We were keen to break away from that and offer something more unique, engaging and exciting.

What makes these trips special?

Our trips are packed with workshops, engaging guided tours, and company visits. Students are given the opportunity to engage with real people working today and get a snapshot into the types of jobs that they may want to do in the future. For many students unsure about their future, our trips provide a chance for them to encounter a type of career they might not have envisaged.

What are the learning goals for these trips?

We offer 5 subject-focused trips and the learning goals are different for each one. They are precise and relevant to the job market, ranging from developing and pitching your own start-up ideas, to understanding the relationship between art and politics, and even developing product handling and evaluation skills. What’s more, we can tailor-make a trip to suit a teacher’s own learning outcomes, because we know that every class’ needs are different.

What’s your personal favourite part of the trips?

Our trips are designed to broaden horizons. I love when students go home after a trip with their heads full of new ideas about the kind of person they want to become, and that’s what our trips are designed to do!
