Stratford Upon Avon is a great location for a school trip. It is steeped in literary history, most famously known for being the birthplace of Shakespeare. It’s a pretty and quaint town with plenty to do and see! Here are a few of our suggestions:

Visit the RSC

The Royal Shakespeare Company is a stunning theatre situated on the banks of the river Avon. It first opened as the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in 1875, and holds a fascinating history of productions and hosting a wide variety of talented actors.

Every production at this theatre is executed to an incredible standard, expect oscar-winning actors, beautiful and experimental staging, and original adaptations.

The RSC are open to guided tours and workshops, enquire directly or let us arrange it all for you!

Visit the Holy Trinity Church

A walk around the ground of Holy Trinity Church is a must-see. It is probably England’s most visited Parish church and is home to Shakespeare’s Grave.

It is a stunning building, dating all the way back to 1210. It overlooks the River Avon and is sheltered by weeping willows.

Take a tour of Shakespeare’s Birthplace

Believe it or not, Shakespeare’s birthplace is still very much intact. The old thatched and cobbled house is open to guided tours and visits.

Shakespeare’s father, John, worked and lived in the house for his whole life. William Shakespeare inherited the house after his father died, and it has been passed down in the family ever since – it is now preserved on the high street.

Take a boat out on the River Avon

On a sunny day there is nothing quite like taking out an old rowing boat and rowing up and down the River Avon under the willow trees. You will see the banks filled with picnics and fellow literary lovers reading novels (join them after your boat ride). From the river you can also get a great view of the RSC and the RSC gardens.
