Tokyo Stock Exchange Market, Tokyo
An amazing experience for any student, a visit to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Market provides them with a glimpse into the real-life world of global economics. In our guided tour around the Market, students are given an informative lecture on the Japan Exchange Group. They’ll learn more about recent developments within the market, and then get the chance to play a fun stock-trading game.
Bank of Japan Head Office, Tokyo
Not complete with a tour of the Stock Exchange, students are also given another amazing experience. This time, they’ll tour the Bank of Japan Head Office, taking in all of the incredible sights within the main building.
On this hour long tour, they’ll see the courtyard and the impressive dome of the exhibition room. In addition, they’ll be given the opportunity to head down into the vault for a very special visit. Students will learn about the history of the building and the Bank of Japan, discover more about the role of money in modern society, and find out how everything relates into the global economy. It’s an unmissable opportunity for any economics student!
Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park
With all the visits to the markers of a modern, economic Japan, it would be easy to forget that it’s also a country filled to the brim with natural splendour. A visit to the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, therefore, is a perfect opportunity for students to explore a new side of Japan.
On our Economics in Japan trip, students get a full day’s excursion to the Park. They’ll take a cruise on Lake Ashi, from which they’ll get views of Mount Fuji. They can take cable cars and ropeways across the Park with some spectacular vistas. They’ll even get the opportunity to try ‘black eggs’, a local delicacy given the name thanks to the sulphuric waters they’re cooked in.
Akihabara, Tokyo
Though today, Akihabara enthralls as a paradise of all things anime, manga and otaku, the history of the district as a key economic centre in twentieth-century Tokyo is an interesting one. Following the war, the region developed into a hub of economic activity, earning its name as Japan’s ‘Electric Town’.
It was once abuzz with retailers selling electronic parts, and this is still evident on the streets today. Now, however, it’s a hive of activity for the shiniest and newest in luxury electronic goods, gaming, and entertainment. For students, it’s a great place to get both a taste of Japan’s economic history and a flavour of all the excitement that the country now has to offer.
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Plant Tour, Kyoto
