Day 1: Welcome to Japan

  • Touch down in Tokyo, ready for the start of your culture school trip to Tokyo! Be greeted at arrivals by your enthusiastic Adventure Leader, ready to transfer to the accommodation.
  • Once checked in and unpacked, meet come together for a trip briefing. Here, the Leader will explain the week’s plans, provide advice on adapting to local culture, and outline how to stay safe.
  • This evening, get the first – and best – view of the Tokyo skyline with a trip up to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

Day 2: Tokyo

  • For your first morning, take part in our “Introduction to Japan” session designed to enhance your travel experience! Led by a Japanese language teacher and local students, this interactive session aims to equip you with valuable Japanese phrases and fascinating customs, ensuring your trip is both exciting and memorable.
  • Following the session, venture out for a fun and engaging adventure game in town, putting your newfound knowledge to the test.
  • Visit the beautiful Meiji Shrine, dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and his wife who began Japan’s transformation from a feudal to a modern society. Then, move onto the Harajuku district – Tokyo’s cultural epicentre. Pokémon, goths, punks, and fashionistas – anything goes in Harajuku!
  • Get a glimpse of one of the city’s most iconic modern sights – the Shibuya crossing! Watch as pedestrians surge into the junction from all sides. It’s thought that every day, 2.4 million people cross Shibuya!

Day 3: Tokyo

  • Enjoy creating a new signature dish in a fun sushi-making experience, led by a nationally-accredited instructor. Experience hands-on training, and learn how to create beautifully shaped sushi using traditional utensils.
  • After lunch, explore the gigantic Tokyo National Museum. The Museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of artworks and archeological objects from across Asia, with a specific focus on Japanese artefacts. Then, after you’ve finished wandering around, venture out into Ueno Park to explore the ponds, cherry blossom trees, and shrines.
  • In the evening take a wander around the streets of Akihabara, nicknamed Japan’s ‘Electric Town’ thanks to its post-war industry boom. Today, it’s a cultural hub for anime and manga lovers, and is home to Japan’s most famous J-pop group, AKB48.

Day 4: Hakone

  • Escape the bustling city and embark on a day trip to Hakone. Take in breathtaking views of iconic Mount Fuji, as you ascend the volcanic alley of Owakudani by cable car. In much of the area around Mount Hakone you will see sulphur vents and hot springs created by the volcanic eruption 3,000 years ago!
  • Enjoy some time after your decent in the picturesque town nestled in the stunning Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park to see how people outside of the major cities really live.
  • Enjoy a delicious dinner and get ready to transfer from Hakone to Tokyo on a private coach. 

Day 5: Tokyo

  • In the morning, explore the district of Asakusa, where the atmosphere of ancient Tokyo survives. Make sure to visit Sensoji Temple, one of Tokyo’s most colorful and popular Buddhist temples. Next, with the assistance of friendly volunteers, learn how to properly wear a kimono and experience the elegance and grace of this iconic attire.
  • Discover the mesmerizing world of digital art at TeamLab. Step into interactive installations that combine technology, art, and nature to create immersive and etheral experiences.
  • Later in the day, hop aboard the Sumida River Cruise for a breathtaking view of the Tokyo skyline. How many landmarks can you spot?

Day 6: Kamakura

  • Swap the city for the sea on a full-day excursion to Kamakura, learning more about a beautiful part of Japan not often visited while on tour. Pay a visit to the stunning Great Buddha of Kamakura – a bronze statue that’s over 11m tall and is a renowned national treasure in Japan. Next stop is  Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the iconic place for Kamakura. 
  • Complete the day with a visit to the oldest Zen temple in Kamakura, Kenchoji .
  • On the last night in Japan, there will be a chance for students and teachers to come together for a reflection session. Through discussion and guided thoughts, student can reflect on their week and digest everything they’ve learned.

Day 7: Farewell

Sadly, today marks the end of your culture school trip to Tokyo. Transfer back to the airport, ready to head home.
