Day 1: Hello Chengdu
Meet your leaders at the airport and transfer into Chengdu city. On the way, listen up for a trip briefing. Once you’ve checked in, head straight to one of Chengdu’s oldest streets, Jin Li Street, to get your first hit of Chinese charm. Engage with the area with a scavenger hunt. The winning team will get a prize!
Enjoy a Sichuan hotpot, a bubbling broth that you dip strips of meat in.
Day 2: Religion & Culinary Culture
Go on a walking tour of Chengdu’s Wenshu Monastery, where you’ll sketch the tranquil scenes in and around the temple. Then, visit the Sichuan Museum. Divide into groups and create historical timelines based on your group’s focus topic.
Try out your skills in a Sichuan-style cooking class and cook up your own lunch. Once you’re refuelled, get ready to make lifelong friends at a local school. Typically, you’ll be going on a school tour, joining some lessons and playing sports. If you want to be popular, prepare a small speech or performance for the welcome ceremony.
Finish a busy day off at a traditional teahouse, where you can watch a Sichuan opera and the famous face-changing act.
Day 3: Sustainable Agriculture
Travel to Anlong village’s experimental eco farm to get a first-hand look at sustainable agriculture. Help out on the farm and learn about how the farm functions.
Tuck into a delicious organic vegetarian lunch. Then, continue to work the fields, digging, tilling, watering, planting, fertilizing and weeding.
Transfer onto Dujiangyan for tomorrow’s service project.
Day 4: A Day in the Life of a Panda
Grasp a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Wolong Panda Research Base. Learn about China’s national animal as you feed, clean and nurture these wonderful animals. Ask the local caretakers and panda experts your burning questions. Watch an interactive video, create panda cakes, feed the pandas bamboo and clean the cages.
You’ve been working hard the past few days, so relax with some free time around the Old Gate.
Day 5: Climbing Giants
Head for Mount Qingcheng, a Taoist holy site, and challenge yourself to hike to the mountain’s peak. But don’t worry – you’ll be taking a cable car for part of the journey, so you can sit back and enjoy the spectacular panoramic views.
Transfer to Leshan city for another climb up the world’s largest stone Buddha.
Celebrate your final evening with a pizza party and talent show with prizes!
Day 6: Bye, Sichuan
It might be home time, but it’s not over. The creative, active and service opportunities you’ve embraced in Sichuan will follow you home!
