The itineraries offer a blend of activities: performing Korean style music, hiking in a national park and exploring Seoul. The students will also take part in a school visit where they will learn and perform music with Korean students. Gyeryongsan National Park
Enjoy hikes in the stunning natural scenery and visit the cascading Donghaksa Eunseon Falls. Stay in a Hanok village made up of traditional Korean houses designed to complement the surrounding landscape and environment.
Seoul
Enjoy the delights of the capital city: visit Palaces, marvel at the city-scapes from the N Seoul Tower, and laugh at the artistic comedy of the Nanta show.
Learn Pansori
Learn Korea's art of musical storytelling - pansori. Adapt songs to tell an ancient Korean story using English language and then perform these at The Ungjindan Shrine, once the site of performance rituals dedicated to ancient spirits.
An Example itinerary
Day 1
- Arrive at the airport and be greeted by your adventure leaders
- Trip briefing
- View the city from atop the N Seoul Tower
Day 2
- Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village
- Visit the Changdeokgung Palace’s secret garden
- Watch the hugely popular show, Nanta. The performance combines non-verbal comedy, acrobatics and magic – it includes traditional samul nori rhythm from a percussion quartet.
Day 3
- Transfer to Gongju via private coach
- Arrive at Gyeryongsan National Park and hike on Gyeryongsan Mountain
- Arrive at accommodation in a traditional Hanok village
Day 4
- Take part in pansori classes: a Korean genre of music, involving singing a story to a drumbeat. Students will write and prepare their own performances
- Visit the Gomanaru Dock, a significant historic site from Korea’s Baekje Period
- Perform pansori songs at the Ungjindan Shrine
- Stop off at a bibimbap restaurant for dinner on return to the village
Day 5
- Visit a local school for musical and cultural exchange
- Typical visits include a school tour, lunch, and a joint rehearsal and musical performance
Day 6
- Visit a nearby Gongsanseong Fortress for a walking tour
- Return to Seoul
- Take part in a reflection session after dinner
Day 7
- Transfer to the airport for your flight home
