Arrive at Gare du Nord/Charles de Gaulle airport and transfer to the hotel using public transport. The Learning Adventure guide will provide some general knowledge about the area, as well as trip rules and safety guidelines, on the way. Check in to the hotel. Take a boat ride along the river Seine and stop off to climb the Eiffel Tower. Admire the view of it at sunset from the Trocadero esplanade and watch it twinkle when lit up at night. End the day enjoying a welcome dinner along with atrip briefing near the hotel.
The morning starts with a city tour to take in Paris’s ‘must-sees’, including Notre Dame, ile de la cité, the latin quarter, Place de la Concorde, La Concergerie, Avenue des Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, Sainte Chapelle, Place Vendôme, Le pont de l’Alma (Lady Dianna memorial) and Port de La Bourdonnais. In the afternoon, visit Sorbonne University to have a tour and a talk by one of the lecturers on a related subject to your educational interest and learn about the Summer School they offer. Watch a stand-up routine, in English, performed by a French comedian.
Take part in a Learning Adventure scavenger hunt in the Louvre art museum, learning about French art along the way. After lunch, have a talk from a Gilet Jaune (part of the yellow vest movement) or En Marche member to learn more about the current political situation in France. Have dinner in the Montparnasse area and go up the Montparnasse tower to watch sunset over panoramic views of the city.
Visit the flea markets at Saint-Ouen to search for a bargain and compare and contrast prices. Learn the art of mime in a French mime masterclass, learning about the history of the art along the way. Enjoy a final dinner in Paris before preparing for your next destination.
Travel to Lyon from Paris and check in to your new accommodation. Take a walking tour of the city and have a reading of Le Petit Prince next to his statue and discuss the philosophy behind it. For dinner, enjoy a classic dish in a boucherie.
Drive to Grotte de Choranche, a magnificent hidden cave south of Lyon. Learn more about the waters of the underground rivers and lakes, rock formations and stalactites. Enjoy the final evening learning more about Lyon’s history and architectural landmarks.
Drive to Puy de Domes volcano one of the youngest lava domes in the region and hike to the summit, admiring the views of the volcanoes along the way. Afterward the hike, swim in the crater lake of the beautiful Lac Pavin. For this evening’s dinner enjoy some local dishes unique to Lyon
Travel to Marseille and check in to accommodation. Take a walking tour of the city to learn more about the history of migration in the city. In the evening, learn about the famous Savon de Marseille soap from a museum and factory on the port, and personalise your own soap to take home.
Visit the Chateau d’If, the fortress turned prison that inspired Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo. Enjoy some shopping time in the local markets of Marseille, an opportunity to practice your French skills! Admire the sunset from the Jardin du Pharo with fantastic views of the city
