Day 3: Delphi

• ‘Know Thyself’ is the quote inscribed on above the entrance to today’s site – Delphi! Travel by private coach to the Greek sanctuary for a full day’s excursion. Winding up the sacred way past temples and treasuries, head to the stadium at the very top. Alongside stunning views across the region, explore the treasures of the Delphi Museum, including the renowned Delphic Charioteer and the Sphinx of Naxos.
• Head back to Athens for a delicious, well-earned meal at a local taverna.

Day 4: Athens

• Today, spend some time exploring the Agora of Athens – the very centre of life in the ancient city. After wandering the landscaped archaeological park, visit the accompanying museum – housed in the beautiful Stoa of Attalos – for an in-depth look at the artefacts from the site and excavation records.
• Discover the traditional Athenian delicacies for lunch, with a walking street food tour of the city. Try delicious souvlaki and saganaki – or sweet treats like loukoumades or bougatsa.
• Give students an experience of Athenian democracy, with an interactive workshop on the Pnyx Hill. Walk up to the ancient site of the Athenian assembly, learn about the foundation of democracy and engage in your own debate! Gain confidence to make your point in front of the group, discuss the arguments with friends, and cast your vote. The group can even elect to ostracise any anti-social members of the assembly!
• As the sun sets this evening, enjoy dinner at a local taverna – complete with spectacular views out to sea.

Day 5: Athens & Nafplion

• Travel to Mycenae by private coach, paying a quick visit en route to the world-famous Corinth Canal – one of the oldest canals in the world! Carry on to Mycenae, where the world of Homer’s heroes is brought to life through impressive archaeological ruins. Highlights here are the Lion’s Gate, the largest surviving sculpture in the prehistoric Aegean, and the imposing Tomb of Clytemnestra.
• Discover Homer’s ‘mighty walled Tiryns‘, exploring the magnificent halls and walls of the legendary citadel – where mythical Heracles performed his Twelve Labours.
• Today, you’ll transfer to the second base of your Classics school trip to Greece – Nafplion. Take some time to settle into the hotel before heading to the vibrant streets of the city. Known for its eclectic architecture and impressive history, there’ll be plenty to explore on the streets – from souvenir shops to dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 6: Nafplion

• Discover the site of Epidaurus, named after the hero Epidauros, son of Apollo. The ancient city is best known for the healing sanctuary of Asclepius and the spectacular theatre – both designated UNESCO World Heritage sites. The theatre itself is famous for its symmetry and incredible acoustics, so students can test their memory of the Greek drama workshop from earlier in the tour.
• Visit a local olive farm to learn about the ancient process of olive oil production and taste some of the best varieties of oil produced in the region!
• On the final evening, come together for a reflection session. Here, students have the opportunity to digest new ideas and discuss their learnings in a group setting.

Day 7: Farewell

Sadly, today marks the end of your Classics school trip to Greece. Depart Nafplion for Athens, ready to head home.
