Geography School Trips to Spain

Morning

Once you’re up, get ready to soak up some history. Embark on a civil war-themed city tour taking you around the capital’s must-sees: the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de los Cibeles and many more.

Afternoon

After a morning of culture, head to a waste management site in Parque Tecnológico de Valdemingómez. Roll up your sleeves, find out the ins and outs of managing urban environments, and learn about the ecological repercussions of human existence.

Evening

After dinner, go to the Reina Sofía to stand before Picasso’s most famous painting, Guernica. It was a big political statement, named after the town that the Nazis bombed during the Spanish Civil War.

Morning

Start the day bright and early with a visit to a bullring where you can learn about Spain’s bullfighting tradition – but don’t worry, you won’t be watching a bullfight!

Afternoon

It’s creepy-crawly time at Insect Park. Students take part in a workshop about Spain’s natural habitat and the differences climate and terrain make for insects and reptiles. Insect Park claims that ‘there are more than 1 million species of insects cataloged and it is believed that there may be up to 5 million. Due to deforestation and changes in the planet many of them will be extinguished without being known.’

Evening

At the end of the day, live life like a local with some traditional Spanish tapas for dinner.

Morning

Travel back in time at a geological site near Cuenca. It’s home to a series of spectacular karst rock formations made of limestone and dolomite, which date back to the Cretaceous period – around 90 million years ago.

Afternoon

Soak up the heat as you explore Cuenca, ‘the enchanted city’. It’s one of the most interesting geographic areas in Spain, as the city is located between the gorges of two rivers. Marvel at the architectural feat of Cuenca’s famous Hanging Houses. They’re built so that the balconies hang off the edge of the cliff!

Evening

Sit back and relax at a flamenco show.

Morning

Say a proper adiós to Madrid and move on to Antequera in Malaga where you will check into your accommodation.

Afternoon

Stretch your legs with a bike ride through the Fuente de Piedra Lagoon, a wetland that the only stable colony of flamingos in Europe call home. Learn about why the wetlands have been chosen as a nesting spot for birds. They’re there for most of the year, but the best time to see the birds is in spring, rosy pink after their winter in Africa.

Evening

End your first day in Andalusia with a local dish for dinner. We recommend porra antequerana, a delicious gazpacho soup!

Morning

Have a hearty breakfast – you’ll need it as today is jam-packed with activities! Travel to Nerja to hike a route that takes you through the Sierras de Tejeda and Alhama Natural Park. Along the way, take time out to learn about the large river pools and stunning waterfalls.

Afternoon

Trade nature for Nerja’s town centre in the afternoon. Discover why it’s nicknamed the ‘white village‘. Once you’re done exploring, watch a falconry demonstration.

Evening

You’ve worked up an appetite, so treat yourself to espeto, barbecued sardines, for dinner on the beachfront.

Take your transfer to the airport, and spend the flight reflecting on your magical week. It might be home time, but it’s not over. Spain’s captivating geography will follow you and your students back to the classroom.
