Day 1: Welcome to Kathmandu

Touch down in Kathmandu, ready for the start of your service school trip to Nepal. After meeting the Adventure Leader at the airport, transfer and settle into your accommodation, before rejoining them for a trip briefing. In this, they’ll explore what the week has in store, provide tips on adapting to local culture, and offer advice on staying safe while travelling.

  • This afternoon, explore the historic Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most visited UNESCO World Heritage cultural monuments in the Kathmandu Valley. While here, students will gain both an understanding of the site’s religious and archaeological importance.

Day 2: Kathmandu

Today, students spend the day visiting Kathmandu’s most beautiful sites, including:

  • Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site that translates to Palace Square. Surrounded by fountains, statues and courtyards, it’s an important site for Buddhist and Hindu rituals and events.
  • Swayambhunath Stupa and Boudhanath Stupa, two of the city’s most beautiful monuments, where students can learn more about Nepal’s rich religious history.
  • Thamel Street, a bustling area of Kathmandu filled with lively eateries and markets selling traditional Nepalese handcrafts. It’s also home to the Garden of Dreams, neoclassical landscaped gardens which date back to 1920.

Days 3-6: Pokhara

On Day 3, transfer with a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, ready to introduce students to the volunteering segment of their service school trip to Nepal.

They’ll embark on an immersive volunteer experience with the Sustainable Agriculture Development Program in Pokhara. Learning the ins and outs of organic farming, students will get the chance to assist the program’s workers with animal husbandry, planting and weeding, the composition of organic pesticides, and composting. They’ll also learn about classic Nepali dishes, and will gain an understanding of the techniques and histories that surround organic farming in Nepal.

Day 7: Farewell

Sadly, today marks the end of your service school trip to Nepal. After leaving the volunteer program, transfer back to the airport, ready to head home.
