Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Take to Rome

Morning/Afternoon

Step off the plane and take a private coach to your accommodation. Check into the hotel and make your way out to explore all of Rome’s must-sees. Marvel at the historic Trevi fountain, the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.

Evening

Feast on a welcome dinner and come together for a trip briefing to get you prepped for the week’s adventures.

Day 2: The Colosseum’s Tourism & the River Tiber’s Forces of Water

Morning

You’ve seen the photos – now it’s time to live it. Go on a guided visit to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and take part in a tourism survey. There are so many interesting facts about these ancient sites – did you know the Colosseum was used to stage ‘naumachia’? They’d fill the theatre up with water and hold real naval battles.

Afternoon

Relax with a scenic lunch near the magnificent Colosseum. Squeeze in a visit to see the Michelangelo statue at the Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli, too. Walk off lunch with a stroll along the River Tiber. On your way, collect geography fieldwork evidence of erosion, transport and deposition.

Evening

After dinner, walk down the Via del Circo Massimo for beautiful views of the Palatine Hill before visiting the Garden of Oranges for superb views of the Vatican.

Day 3: School Visit & Aqueducts

Morning

Visit a Roman school that has been specially matched to meet your educational interests. Walk in the shoes of an Italian student for the day, taking a school tour, joining lessons, playing sports and participating in activities.

Afternoon

Take a bike ride along the aqueducts of Rome. They were constructed by the Ancient Romans to bring water to the citizens of the city.

Evening

Indulge on a tasty dinner in a local Italian restaurant.

Day 4: Underground Naples

Morning

Catch the train to Naples and check into your accommodation.

Afternoon

Grab some lunch, then get exploring! Start off with a walking tour around the city. Take in incredible panoramic views of Vesuvius from a castle and indulge on fabulous Neapolitan snacks. Afterwards, discover underground Naples, examining strange species of plant life. You’ll be wandering through long dark narrow tunnels, so we don’t recommend this to anyone claustrophobic!

Evening

It’s been a day of great food – so don’t break the streak! Dine at a traditional Naples pizzeria.

Day 5: Vesuvius & Pompeii

Morning/Afternoon

Spend the day on a guided tour of world-famous Mount Vesuvius and dare to stare into its depths. Then, walk through the ancient streets of Pompeii, filled with history and preserved by Vesuvius’ volcanic eruption.

Head back to Rome in the late afternoon and check into your accommodation.

Evening

It’s your last night – celebrate this awesome trip with a final Italian dinner.

Day 6: Take Your Knowledge Home, Geographer!

It might be home time, but it’s not over. Italy’s fascinating geography will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
