Day 1: Arrival

  • Students will arrive in either Houston or Dallas at the start of their Learning Adventure where our enthusiastic Adventure Leaders will be waiting for you, waving our TLA flag.
  • They’ll transfer in a private coach to Baylor University and on the way students will listen to a Trip Briefing. Your Adventure Leaders will explain details about the music camp they are about to arrive at, give tips on how to stay happy during their time away from home and outline how they will stay safe during their travels.

Day 2: Band camp

  • Day 2 of band camp.
  • Begin your 6-day band camp alongside students musicians from all over the world.
  • The camp involves one week of intense training under the artistic guidance of the outstanding Baylor professors and works towards the The Grand Concert, the culmination of the week’s efforts.
  • Daily activities typically include large ensemble rehearsals, chamber music sessions, string quartets (auditioned), jazz ensemble (auditioned) and master class lessons on their instruments. Students are assigned to a chamber group that best fits their playing experience and strengths.
  • Aside from the music sessions, there are also recreational activities that include swimming, athletics and evening social events. Students are under careful supervision by camp counselors during all activities.

Day 7: Austin, escape room & Congress Avenue Bridge

  • The camp draws to a close after a breakfast this morning. Having worked hard to prepare for the Grand Concert, students can reward themselves with a fun-packed few days in the Lone-Star State!
  • They will transfer to Austin with a lunch stop at Buc-ee’s, a legendary Texan convenience store.
  • After lunch, students can discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks as a team before time runs out at Escape Room Austin.
  • Before dinner, they will stop at the Congress Avenue Bridge, an unassuming bridge over the Colorado River which comes alive at sunset between March and October, when hundreds of bats fly out from underneath the bridge.

Day 8: Zilker park, Top Golf & orchestra

  • Students can head over to Zilker park, known as the ‘soul of the city’. They will get to hike through the park, visit the botanical gardens and enjoy a dip at Barton Springs Pool, which is filled with water from nearby natural springs.
  • They’ll then get to learn the basics of golf at Top Golf, a high tech driving range.
  • In the afternoon, students will visit a  local shopping center to delight their taste buds with Amy’s Ice Cream.
  • In the evening, students will come together with a local Austin student orchestra for a joint rehearsal and performance.

Day 9: Houston, Moody Gardens & Johnson Space Center

  • Today, students will take a day trip to Houston.
  • They can explore Moody Gardens, a captivating destination featuring a pyramid complex with diverse attractions, including a rainforest, aquarium, and educational exhibits.
  • Followed by a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, an iconic facility is where astronauts train for missions, spacecraft are designed and tested, and cutting-edge research pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in space.

Day 10: Highlights tour, dance class & bowling

  • Students can enjoy a special highlights tour of Austin with a local expert guide and visit key sites like the Texas State Capitol and University of Texas, Austin.
  • Its time to get their cowboy boots on for a private dance class to learn the Texas Two Step!
  • In the evening, student will head to Union Underground for a glow in the dark bowling experience.

Day 11: Water park & Texas BBQ

  • For the last day, students will spend the day splashing around at Schlitterbahn Water Park, which promises the hottest, coolest time in Texas.
  • After a day at the water park, they will indulge in a mouthwatering Texas BBQ dinner.
  • After the dinner, there will be an opportunity for a reflection session. Through discussion, listening and guided thought, participants can process their experiences, digest new ideas and consider what they have learned during their trip.

Day 12: Farewell

  • Today, it’s time to head back to the airport for your flight home.
