History School Trip to Spain

Morning/Afternoon

Once you’re up, get ready to soak up some history. Embark on a civil war-themed city tour taking you around the capital’s must-sees: the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de los Cibeles and many more. Finish off with a stop at the Parque Oeste, where you can explore the labyrinth. There’s also a bunker left behind from the Battle of Ciudad Universitaria during the Civil War.

Evening

Spend your evening taking a historic food tour. Learn about traditional Spanish dishes, then get ready to roll up your sleeves – it’s your turn to have a go. After the cooking class, it’s time to eat your delicious creations for dinner!

Morning

Start the day bright and early and put on your dancing shoes. Immerse yourself in a flamenco class, where you’ll have the chance to learn about the history of this famous dancing style and get the hang of some moves.

Afternoon

Visit a bullring to learn more about Spain’s long-standing bullfighting tradition, dating all the way back to 711 A.D. But don’t worry – you won’t be watching a bullfight.

Evening

After working up an appetite, enjoy some traditional Spanish tapas for dinner.

Morning/Afternoon

Take a day trip to El Escorial, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an incredibly rich history. It was the residence of the King of Spain and was both a monastery and a palace.

Marvel at the impressive architecture and interior design, before taking a tour of the nearby Valle de los Caídos (Valley of the Fallen), where Franco was buried. Learn about the controversy surrounding Franco, the dictator that ruled Spain from 1939 to 1975.

Evening

After dinner, go to the Reina Sofía to stand before one of Picasso’s famous paintings, Guernica. It was a big political statement, named after the town that the Nazis bombed during the Spanish Civil War.

Morning

Time to jet to Malaga! Take a minute to admire the indoor forest in Madrid’s Atocha station before catching your flight. Touch down and drive to Granada where you will check into your accommodation.

Afternoon

After a morning of travelling, stretch your legs with a bike tour around Granada. Discover more about the city at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains as you go.

Evening

Treat your taste buds to some delicious local specialities for dinner – our favourite is Habas con Jamón!

Morning

Head for the Alhambra, a wonderful Arabic palace and fortress. Once a royal palace under the Sultan of Granada Yusuf I, it was taken over by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492, where they lived when they granted Christopher Columbus permission to set off on his voyage.

Afternoon

Relax at an Arabic tea shop in the Moorish quarter of Granada to hear about the area’s history. Once refreshed, continue on with your travels to Córdoba. The Mosque-Cathedral has a captivating combination of Islamic and Christian architecture, and its history of two religions is just as fascinating.

Evening

This is your last night. Feast on a final meal of Spanish tapas before preparing for your flight home in the morning.
