Day 1: South Bank

Morning

Step off the plane, head to your accommodation and make pals with your guide. They’ll give you a trip briefing and get you up to speed with trip rules and safety guidelines.

Now you’re prepped, get exploring! Visit the Museum of London, where you can refresh your memory of the city’s history.

Afternoon

Play a games-based learning activity at the Southbank Centre. It’s called the Prisoner’s Dilemma and is designed to increase your understanding of political theory. Then, head outside and stroll down the South Bank, London’s vibrant cultural district peppered with historical sites, vendors and street performers.

Evening

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner of traditional British food like fish & chips.

Day 2: The Palace of Westminster & The Supreme Court

Morning

Head to the Palace of Westminster and learn all about the House of Commons and the House of Lords, where the British Parliament sits. Depending on availability, there might even be a chance to watch a debate in which MPs discuss current issues.

Afternoon

Next, take a tour of the Supreme Court, where what is legal is contested and where issues relevant to wider society get decided on. You might get to see an appeal, dependent on the court schedule and seating availability.

Day 3: LSE

Morning

Tour the London School of Economics and Political Science, led by a current student. Get a taste of the student life and the courses on offer at this world-renowned university. Then, head over to East London, for a guided walking tour of its street art scene to see how art is used to make political statements.

Afternoon

Make your way to Hyde Park and admire the lush gardens. Try and deliver a speech at Speaker’s Corner to persuade others on an issue of your choice.

Day 4: Cambridge Day Trip

Morning

Hop on your transfer as you make your way to Cambridge (2 hours by coach). Led by a former Cambridge student, take a walking tour of the city and its many colleges. Then it’s a must-do in Cambridge: go punting (Cambridge slang for rowing) on the River Cam. Enjoy fantastic views of the college “backs” and Cambridge’s bridges as you meander through the city.

Afternoon

Climb the steps to the top of Great St Mary’s Church, before enjoying the hustle and bustle of Market Square. Take part in The Learning Adventure’s photo scavenger hunt challenge.

After a jam-packed day, it’s time to head back to London.

Day 5: School Visit

Morning

Visit a London school, specifically matched to meet your educational interests. Typically, students will take a school tour, join some lessons, play sports and engage in a political debate with the local students.

Afternoon

Hear from a social enterprise or start-up on challenging the status quo through business. The speaker will talk about setting up a start-up with a conscience, as well as the challenges and aims of their organisation. Have some questions prepped for the Q&A session and get involved in the curated workshop.

Evening

You’ve seen it in the movies, now it’s time to stand in Oxford Street and marvel at the bright lights of the city centre! This is your chance to grab some last-minute souvenirs.

Day 6: Farewell, London!

Morning

Squeeze in a visit to London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on your final morning. It’s a sporting complex that was built for the 2012 Olympics. Feel like an Olympian as you play sports at the Copper Box Arena gym or go swimming in the Olympic swimming pool.

Finish up with a traditional British afternoon teaDebrief and participate in a reflection session. Then, it’s home time. But it’s not over …the UK’s vibrant political world will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
