Day 2: Shiqiao Village

Student’s will learn more about the groups of minorities who call this region home. Visit the Shiqiao Village of the Miao people. Enjoy a walking tour of the village before learning how to make paper using their traditional techniques.

Hike up to Matang Village, where you will join a batik making workshop, which uses a wax-dyeing technique to colour beautiful fabrics.

Day 3: Miao Village

Visit a local Miao village, where student’s will assist with a number of basic farming tasks in the paddy fields surrounding the village, before enjoying a lunch with produce from the farm. Tasks include plowing the fields with water buffalo and catching fish from the ponds next to the paddies.

A sustainability-themed trivia night provides an opportunity for everyone to learn about important environmental topics in a fun and engaging way.

Day 4: Miaoling Mountains

Enjoy a hike through the Leigongshan Mountain Reserve and wind your way through a stunning section of the Miaoling Mountains.  Depending on weather conditions, we may follow the path of the river for part of this hike so do bring shoes which you don’t mind getting wet.

Call in at Dazhai Village where people of the Green Miao will teach you how to play a local instrument called the Lusheng, and once you have mastered that you’ll move on to the basic moves of the dances which accompany this traditional music.

Enjoy a BBQ dinner and experience the hospitality the Green Miao are revered for.

Day 5: Departure
