Photography School Trip in China

Morning

It’s your first morning in China, so make it count! Kick off with your first photography lesson, fully tailored to your students’ levels of experience and skill. You’ll be set photography assignments that correspond with the day’s itinerary.

Hit the Temple of Heaven, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see classical imperial Chinese architecture. Then, head to a teahouse to experience a traditional tea ceremony.

Afternoon

There’s no better way to be introduced to Beijing that with a banquet of Peking roast duck – Peking is the romanized name for Beijing. After you’ve refuelled, it’s on to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is the world’s largest imperial palace and has been the home of 24 emperors! Stroll out to the former Imperial gardens, Jingshan Park, for spectacular panoramic views of Beijing.

Evening

Transfer to an unrestored section of the Great Wall for an unforgettable day tomorrow!

Morning

Okay, tick off the bucket list. Start bright and early. Hike up the Great Wall for a magnificent sunrise. You’ll be taught about sunrise/sunset photography and shown how to experiment with aperture, silhouettes, exposure length and more!

Afternoon

Once you’ve rested your legs at your accommodation, transfer back into the city. Finish up where you left off yesterday, continuing your tour of Beijing. Spend a relaxing afternoon at the Summer Palace. Walk through the spectacular grounds and take a wooden boat across the palatial lake.

Evening

Hop on the night train. Wave a sad goodbye to Beijing and a happy hello to Xi’an.

Morning

This is the ancient world’s trade capital and the mother of the Silk Road. You’re going to want to capture Xi’an on film, so start the day with a photography lesson.

No trip to Xi’an would be complete without popping out of the city and venturing into China’s ancient past with the Terracotta Warriors. Thousands of terracotta warriors were buried with the emperor, as there was a belief that they would come alive and protect him in the afterlife. Afternoon

Then, it’s back to the city for a bike ride around the top of Xi’an’s ancient city walls. They are China’s best-preserved city fortifications. Contrast the old historic city with the soaring skyscrapers of modern Xi’an.

Evening

Sample the unique flavours of Hui Muslim food, before walking it off to see the Drum and Bell tower lit up at night.

Catch your flight to Guilin, a popular city for nature lovers and climbers in the Guangxi province.

Afternoon

Head for the verdant Longji rice terrace fields. They’re a seriously iconic sight.

Evening

After a landscape photography lesson, practise capturing the sunset and night sky.

Morning

The local inhabitants of this region are the Miao indigenous people. They’re well-known for their hospitality, love of singing and richly embroidered traditional wear. Take a morning hike through the remote rice-terrace covered areas. Stop at small hamlets to chat to and photograph the locals. Make sure you get permission before you take snaps of anyone though!

Afternoon

Rest up on your transfer to Yangshuo.

Evening

Greet Yangshuo culture with to a stunning performance in an open-air natural theatre. The show’s called ‘Impression Sanjie Liu’ and is a beautiful night light show.

Morning

Begin with a photography lesson on capturing water-based photos as well as the mountainous landscape. Then, head off on a short cycling route. Once you’re acquainted with the area, take your cameras onto your bamboo rafts to take incredible photos of river life and the surrounding scenery.

Afternoon

Head to Moon Hill, an example of one of the many karst formations in this area. After a short but challenging hike, relax in the underground mud caves.

Evening

Remember to shower, then move on to Guangzhou.

It might be home time, but it’s not over – China’s stunning scenery will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
