Day 1: Welcome to Japan!

  • Touchdown in Tokyo, ready for your economics & business school trip to Japan to begin! Meet your Adventure Leader at arrivals, ready to transfer to the hotel.
  • After unpacking, come together with the Adventure Leader for a trip briefing. Here, they’ll explain the week ahead, provide advice on adapting to Japanese culture, and give tips on keeping safe while travelling.
  • Make the first real glimpse of Tokyo one to remember, with a trip to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The view of the city skyline from here is a must-see!

Day 2: Tokyo

  • For your first full day in Tokyo, you will embark on a guided tour of Tsukiji Outer Market. Here you will get to learn all about the history and success of one of Japan’s most traditional industries: fishing. Dive into the deep history and try some local delicacies as you explore this iconic seafood market.
  • After lunch, learn all about Japanese business etiquette and customs in a session by a Japanese local. You will have the chance to practice business card exchanges and bowing.
  • Visit the Bank of Japan Currency Museum, which opened in November 1985 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Bank of Japan. Exhibitions include examples of different currencies and related materials, all the way from ancient Japan to the present day.
  • In the evening, take a trip to Akihabara, nicknamed Japan’s ‘Electric Town’ thanks to its postwar industry. Today, it’s a cultural centre for anime and manga lovers, and is also home to Japan’s most famous J-pop group, AKB48.

Day 3: Tokyo

  • Get an immersive look into the business community in Tokyo by paying a visit to some shared startup offices, where entrepreneurs across all industries are striving to innovate.
  • Visit the beautiful Meiji Shrine, dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and his wife. Then, move on to the Harajuku district, Tokyo’s cultural epicentre, to see pokemon, punks, goths and fashionistas. Anything goes in Harajuku!
  • Pay a visit to the famous Shibuya Crossing. When the lights turn red at this busy intersection, pedestrians surge into the junction from all sides like a floodgate opening. It’s arguably one of the most iconic modern sights in Tokyo!

Day 4: Kanto

  • Avoid the crowds and travel out of central Tokyo to visit a Japanese factory/company. You will have the opportunity to visit industrial towns that activate the whole of the Japanese economy.
  • It’s time for trivia! Students can take control of their own learning as they create fun trivia games, with questions relevant to their trip. For some extra difficult questions, try pairing students up with Group Leaders!

Day 5: Osaka

  • This morning, jump on board the shinkansen – the bullet train – to transfer from Tokyo to Osaka.
  • Once you’ve arrive in Osaka, visit a local company to get an insight into Japanese work culture and what the future of the industry might look like.
  • Afterwards, explore the area of Shinsekai which translates to the “new world” and visit a treasured symbol of Osaka, Tsutenkaku Tower. Take in the colorful streets, retro signboards and billboards. There’s plenty to see, buy and eat!

Day 6: Osaka & Tokyo

  • Visit Osaka’s vibrant Den Den Town, a popular shopping destination for foreigners and locals. It’s the city’s electronics, camera, computer, pop culture, games, manga and anime shopping neighborhood. Follow this by exploring the nearby Kuromon Ichiba Market – a famous food market which has been nicknamed ‘Osaka’s Kitchen’. It is an excellent venue for strolling, sampling and snacking on a delicious variety of fresh market foods.
  • In the afternoon, enjoy panoramic views over Osaka’s skyline from the floating garden observation deck of the Umeda Sky Building, one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
  • Next, discover the beauty of Osaka Castle, Osaka’s most prominent landmark. Visible from most panoramic viewpoints in the city, it is a stunning sight from afar, standing out in the skyline of east Osaka. Take a stroll around the stunning gardens and learn about the history of this fascinating site.
  • It’s time to travel back to Tokyo. Take in the sights of the Japanese landscape as you travel on the bullet train.
  • It’s your last evening in Japan and time for a reflection session. Through discussion, listening and guided thought, participants can process their experiences, digest new ideas and consider what they have learned about the region, its people and themselves during the trip.
