History & Culture School Trip to the East Coast

During our history & culture school trip to the East Coast, students will immerse themselves in American culture through firsthand experiences. In Washington, D.C., they’ll visit the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress, gaining insight into the workings of American democracy. While visits to national monuments and museums deepen their understanding of the country’s past and present. In New York, students will dive into the heart of culture – exploring world-class art at The Met, visiting famous landmarks, and feeling the energy of Times Square and Broadway. With every stop, students will connect classroom learning to real-world experiences, building a deeper appreciation for the diversity and history of the United States.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Washington D.C

  • Students will touch down in Washington D.C., ready for the start of their culture trip. They’ll meet their Adventure Leader at the airport, and they’ll help them transfer to their accommodation.
  • After arrival, students will have a trip briefing with the Adventure Leaders who will explain details about the travel plans, give advice on how to adapt to the local culture and outline how students will stay safe during their travels.
  • Once students have settled into their hotel they can savor classic comfort food in a nostalgic 1960s-era American diner, where retro vibes meet delicious favorites.
  • To end their first day, students will take part in a night time monuments and memorials tour! Along the way they’ll get to see the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial.

Day 2: Supreme Court, Library of Congress and the United States Capitol

  • This morning students get the chance to visit the Supreme Court. Here they can listen to a courtroom lecture which introduces students to the judicial functions of the Supreme Court, the history of the building, and the architecture of the Courtroom.
  • Stroll through the stunning Library of Congress, the largest in the world, and explore its vast collection of historical treasures, rare manuscripts, and breathtaking architecture!
  • After lunch, students will discover the workings of one of the world’s most successful democracies with a visit to the United States Capitol. Here they will explore iconic highlights, including the Rotunda, the Statuary Hall, and the breathtaking Capitol Dome, at the heart of the U.S. legislative branch.
  • Students will then immerse themselves in nature and culture at the National Mall, a historic, open park in the heart of Washington, D.C., often called “America’s Front Yard.” In students free time they can explore some world-class institutions, such as the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Gallery of Art – all offering an unforgettable glimpse into history, art, and science.
  • It’s Taco Tuesday! Enjoy some fresh, flavorful Mexican cuisine at a local hot spot. From zesty street tacos and cheesy quesadillas to savory enchiladas and sizzling fajitas, students can treat their taste buds to a full-blown fiesta. Wash it down with a refreshing horchata, a tangy agua de tamarindo, or a sweet agua de jamaica.

Day 3: Changing of the Guard, New York, guided tour & Times Square

  • Today students will visit Arlington National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
  • Next up  – New York City. Enjoy the scenery along the way and a lunch stop for cheesesteaks and some sightseeing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a historic and picturesque city.
  • Once students have arrived, the Adventure Leaders will guide them on a “Life, Liberty and Happiness” tour of Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love: Hit famous attractions like the Rocky Steps, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.
  • Students will then immerse themselves in the electrifying energy of Times Square, the dazzling heart of Manhattan. Known as “The Crossroads of the World”, this iconic hub comes alive with towering billboards, bustling crowds, and an unmistakable vibrancy that never sleeps.
  • To end the first evening in New York, students will enjoy dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., a lively restaurant inspired by the movie “Forrest Gump.”

Day 4: City tour, the MET & Broadway

  • Embark on an unforgettable NYC tour, the perfect introduction to the city’s most iconic sights. Students can admire the stunning architecture of the beloved New York Public Library, the majestic Grand Central Terminal, and the divine St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Experience the luxury of Fifth Avenue, and marvel at the grandeur of the Rockefeller Center and Plaza Hotel. Along the way, they’ll hear the stories behind landmarks like the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, and much more, bringing the energy and history of New York City to life.
  • Home to over two million works, the MET, is arguably the world’s greatest encyclopedic art museum! Here, students will journey through 5,000 years of human artistic and cultural expression and discover the treasures and secrets of this icon!
  • What is a trip to New York without experiencing the magic of Broadway! Students will feel the energy as they take their seat and get ready to be swept away by unforgettable performances, dazzling sets, and timeless stories in the heart of New York City’s theater district.

Day 5: Ellis Island, Immigration Museum, Brooklyn Bridge & Empire State Building

  • Students can get ready to embark on a journey through history at Liberty and Ellis Island, icons of freedom and hope. Marvel at the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, with stunning harbor views, and explore its rich symbolism. Then visit Ellis Island to walk the halls where millions of immigrants began their American dream, brought to life in the powerful Immigration Museum. A visit here is a moving tribute to resilience and the diverse spirit of America.
  • Students will then walk across the most famous bridge in not just New York, but perhaps the world, the Brooklyn Bridge, and hear it’s epic story! Here, they will explore more of the trendy area of DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) and enjoy some free time for shopping and sightseeing.
  • In the afternoon, students can savor a classic slice at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria in Brooklyn, known for its coal-fired brick oven pies.
  • To end the final evening, students will experience breathtaking views from the Empire State Building’s iconic observatory in Midtown Manhattan. They’ll get to soar to the top of this world-renowned landmark and take in panoramic vistas of New York City’s skyline, from the Statue of Liberty to Central Park.

Day 6: Fifth Avenue, Grand Central & flight home

  • On the last morning, students will enjoy some free time on world famous Fifth Avenue. They can set their sights on icons like the Plaza Hotel, a symbol of elegance and luxury, and the Rockefeller Center, a masterpiece of Art Deco design and home to the beloved Christmas tree tradition.
  • Students can take in the breathtaking beauty of Grand Central Terminal, the world’s largest train station. Steeped in history, this iconic Beaux-Arts masterpiece from 1913 was championed by Cornelius Vanderbilt, the visionary railroad entrepreneur.
  • In the evening it’s time for students to head back to the airport for their flight home.
