Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

  • Students will touch down in Seoul, ready to start their service trip to Korea. They’ll meet their Adventure Leader at the airport, and they’ll help them transfer to their accommodation.
  • After arriving, students will have a trip briefing with the Adventure Leader. Alongside running through the next ten days of the itinerary, they’ll also introduce students to the local culture and provide some tips for adjusting to local life, while also explaining the best ways to stay safe while they travel.
  • Arriving in a new city can be overwhelming for anyone. So students can start off their trip with a walking tour of the local area.

Day 2: Dojang, Gyeongbokgung Palace & village tours

  • For their first morning in Seoul, students will take a visit to a Dojang, the Korean word for the training hall, where martial arts like Taekwondo & Tangsoodo take place. Students will get the opportunity to have a training session led by a local instructor.
  • After lunch, they will then go on to visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, the main Royal Palace of the Joseon Dynasty. Students will get to explore the exquisite palace, the largest and perhaps most beautiful of the 5 Palaces built by the dynasty, before walking up the Hill to the East of the palace. At the top, they will find Bukchon Hanok Village, a Korean traditional village of narrow alleys and traditional Korean houses called Hanoks.
  • While visiting Ikseon-dong Hanok Village, students will find Korean traditional houses with century-long histories. Students will soak up the atmosphere of these traditional houses, Hanoks, which are known to be some of the last remaining urban-styled Hanoks.

Day 3: Museum visits, K-pop experience & Gwangjang Market

  • Today, students will get the chance to visit the world’s largest cultural complex dedicated to upcycling. The Seoul Upcycling Plaza takes the act of re-use one step further and offers classes to learn about upcycling and the design process.
  • They will then go on to learn about the process of water purification and its importance at Seoul Sewerage Museum. The museum offers exhibitions that focus on the history, technology, and future of domestic and overseas sewerage systems, also focusing on water reclamation and environmental education.
  • In the afternoon students will experience K-Pop and view media art at the same time at the HiKR Ground. Students will get immersed in Korean local tourism through various arts, experiences, and exhibitions or enjoy various media arts through the large media “HiKR Wall”. They will then get the opportunity to make their own K-pop music videos using the XR Live Studio!
  • After the museum visit, stroll along the Cheonggyecheon Stream. Here students can stop to admire the Wall of Hope, decorated with approximately 20,000 ceramic tiles, expressing the hopes of South Koreans, North Koreans, and overseas Koreans for national unity and reunification.
  • Students can end their day by exploring the Gwangjang Market, one of the oldest and largest traditional markets in South Korea. Take the time to sample the numerous types of local food or wander the stalls that sell a variety of goods.

Day 4: Volunteering, N Seoul Tower and shopping

  • Students can enjoy an enriching experience by volunteering in the local Seoul community. Activities range from assisting in providing food and materials to those in need, or helping raise awareness of environmental issues.
  • After lunch, soak in incredible views over the Metropolis, from the observation deck of Seoul’s second highest point, the N Seoul Tower.
  • They’ll then board the cable car near Myeongdong Station and head up Namsan to the base of N Seoul Tower, taking in the city views as they ascend.
  • A trip to Seoul wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Myeong-dong – Korea’s best-known shopping district, where the streets are lined with department stores and shops that sell brand-name cosmetics, clothes, shoes and accessories.

Day 5: Hanam Union Park & river cruise

  • Today, students will visit Hanam Union Park. They’ll learn how the park transforms a typical NIMBY (not in my back yard) facility into an eco-friendly community project, with waste treatment hidden out of sight. Students will also get to visit Union Tower, where they can gaze at the panoramic views.
  • This afternoon, students can explore the Starfield COEX Mall, a mall that leads in trends and culture! Combining fashion, food, culture and entertainment, the mall provides everything you need.
  • Before dinner, embark on a scenic cruise of the Han River, the major river running through Seoul, and cruise up to the Banpo Bridge with its unique fountains.

Day 6: Cooking class & Seoul Energy Dream Centre

  • For their last full day, students will start at the Seoul Energy Dream Centre, a fun and interactive place where students can learn about environmental issues and the importance of energy.
  • For a hands-on introduction to Korean culture, students will take a sustainable cooking class and enjoy 3 famous Korean foods. They will learn about the seasonal and local foods and the reduction of food waste.
  • On their last night in South Korea, there will be a chance for students, faculty and adventure leaders to come together for a reflection session. Through discussion, listening and guided thought, participants can process their experiences, digest new ideas and consider what they have learned about the region, its people and themselves during the trip.

Day 7: Farewell

  • Sadly, today marks the end of your Learning Adventure to Korea. We’ll transfer back to the airport, ready for you to head home.
