Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at the start of your students Learning Adventure where our enthusiastic Adventure Leaders will be waiting for them, waving our TLA flag.
After arrival, students will be provided with a Trip Briefing. The Adventure Leaders will explain details about their travel plans, give advice on how to adapt to the local culture and outline how they will stay safe during your travels.
Once your students have settled in, they can enjoy an insightful educational talk and tour with ‘Greening the Red Zone’ focusing on conservation efforts and urban regeneration in the area.
In the evening, they will travel to Hanmer Springs, where they can unwind and rejuvenate at the renowned Hanmer Springs Spa.

Day 2: Community service project

For their first morning, students will help make a difference through a Community Service Project at Volunteer Canterbury in New Zealand, focusing on specific areas of need.
They might assist in sorting and distributing food to low-income families through local food banks or provide companionship and support to elderly residents in care facilities.
Students will also participate in restoring native bushland by planting trees and removing invasive species, or help organize community events such as fundraising walks or public clean-up days.
They will work closely with dedicated volunteers and local organizations to address issues like poverty, environmental sustainability, and social isolation, making a direct and lasting impact on the Canterbury community.

Day 3: Punakaiki & Pancake Rocks

In the morning, students will start their journey from Christchurch to the West Coast of New Zealand. Leaving behind the flat expanse of the Canterbury Plains, they’ll soon be surrounded by the towering peaks of the Southern Alps. As students descend toward the West Coast, the scenery shifts from alpine heights to lush rainforests, with misty mountains and fern-covered valleys.
Once students have arrived, they’ll get the opportunity to explore the incredible Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki on New Zealand’s West Coast, where layered limestone formations resemble stacks of pancakes.

Day 4: Franz Josef, glacier walk & conservation work

Today students will drive to Franz Josef on New Zealand’s West Coast and experience one of the world’s most remarkable landscapes. The route takes them through dense rainforests, past dramatic coastlines, and alongside rivers fed by glacial melt.
Upon arrival, students will be at the gateway to Franz Josef Glacier, where they can explore glacier walks, scenic flights, and hot pools surrounded by stunning alpine beauty.
In the afternoon they will contribute to preserving one of the country’s most pristine environments. Students will work alongside passionate locals to restore native habitats, plant trees, and remove invasive species in the region’s lush rainforests and coastal areas.
They will also help protect endangered wildlife, such as native birds, and assist with monitoring and maintaining biodiversity in this rugged and wild landscape.

Day 5: Glacier valley & kayak tour

In Franz Josef, students will begin with a guided Glacier Valley walk, traversing the stunning terrain around the Franz Josef Glacier. Marvel at the glacier’s icy formations and learn about its dynamic movement and the surrounding alpine environment.
They’ll then get the chance to paddle through the serene waters of Okarito Lagoon on a guided kayak tour, where they’ll explore one of New Zealand’s largest unmodified wetlands. Students will glide through tranquil channels surrounded by lush rainforest and enjoy stunning views of the Southern Alps in the distance.
In the evening, students will have time to enjoy some much needed freetime to relax and unwind ready for the next day.

Day 6: Christchurch & Treetops Walkway

In the morning students will make their way to Christchurch from the West Coast, enjoying a scenic journey that showcases New Zealand’s diverse landscapes.
Students will get to experience the Treetops Walkway near Hokitika, a breathtaking elevated walkway that takes them high above the forest floor, providing a unique perspective of the lush West Coast rainforest.
As they stroll along the path, they’ll be surrounded by towering trees, ferns, and the sounds of native birdlife. The walkway features a stunning suspension bridge that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the nearby mountains and coastline. The Treetops Walkway is a perfect way to immerse students in New Zealand’s natural beauty while enjoying a leisurely adventure in the heart of the rainforest.

Day 7: Farewell

It’s now time for students to head back for their return travel home.
