Day 1: Arrive in Cambodia

  • Arrive at the airport where our enthusiastic Adventure Leaders will be waiting for you at the arrivals gate, waving our Learning Adventure flag. Transfer to your accommodation and come together for a trip briefing.
  • Begin your tour by visiting the iconic Independence Monument, a symbol of Cambodia’s independence, followed by Wat Langka, one of Phnom Penh’s oldest pagodas, which has a rich history tied to Cambodian Buddhism. 
  • In the evening, board a local boat for a peaceful Sunset Cruise along the Mekong River. Enjoy stunning views of Phnom Penh’s skyline as you unwind on your first night in Cambodia. 

 

 

Day 2: Phnom Penh City Tour

  • Start your day with a city tour by Cyclo, a traditional Cambodian rickshaw. Visit Wat Phnom, the temple that gives Phnom Penh its name, and continue to the National Museum, where you’ll discover a vast collection of Khmer art and artefacts.
  • Explore the Royal Palace, a magnificent complex that has been the residence of the Cambodian royal family since 1866. Visit the Silver Pagoda, home to many national treasures, including a life-sized gold Buddha adorned with diamonds. 
  • Reflect on Cambodia’s tragic history with a visit to the Choeung Ek Killing Fields, a poignant reminder of the Khmer Rouge regime. This site offers a powerful opportunity for learning and reflection. 
  • In the evening visit to the lively Russian Market, where you can shop for unique souvenirs, including local crafts, jewellery, and textiles. 

Day 3: Silk Island and SOSORO Museum

  • Head north to Silk Island, where you’ll experience the rhythms of rural Cambodian life. Try your hand at farming, visit traditional silk weavers, and explore the island’s small villages at your own pace.
  • Visit the SOSORO Museum, where you’ll gain insights into Cambodia’s economic and monetary history. The interactive exhibits highlight the connection between money, politics, and society.
  • End your day with a serene sunset view from the riverbank at Koh Norea, a perfect spot to relax and reflect on the day’s activities.

Day 4: Oudong and Battambang Journey

  • Travel to Oudong, the former royal capital of Cambodia. Climb the 500 steps to the top of the mountain, where you’ll find ancient stupas and temples, including the impressive Arthaross Temple, which holds the remains of a large Buddha.
  • On your way to Battambang, stop at Koh Chen, a village known for its skilled copper and silversmiths. Witness local artisans at work, crafting intricate jewellery and ornaments.
  • Experience the unique “Bamboo Train” ride in Battambang, a simple yet thrilling journey on a bamboo platform that travels along old railway tracks.

Day 5: Battambang Exploration

  • Embark on a full-day tour of Battambang’s countryside. Drive through lush rice fields, visit local villages, and learn how traditional Khmer delicacies like fish paste and sticky rice are made.
  • Explore ancient temples, including Wat Ek and Phnom Banan, offering panoramic views of the province. Visit Phnom Sampeau, known for its ‘Killing Caves,’ a somber site that contrasts with the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
  • Stay until sunset to witness the incredible sight of bats flying out of the caves, a natural spectacle that is both awe-inspiring and memorable.

Day 6: Journey to Siem Reap

  • Take a scenic bus ride from Battambang to Siem Reap, with a stop at the Banteay Chhmar Temples. These impressive ruins, surrounded by jungle, are famous for their detailed bas-reliefs depicting ancient battles.
  • If you have time, explore a nearby village and the Silk Centre, where you can learn about traditional silk production in Cambodia.
  • In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance in Siem Reap while dining on traditional Cambodian cuisine.

Day 7: Cultural Immersion and Tonle Sap Lake

  • Learn the art of traditional Cambodian cooking in a hands-on class set in the rural countryside. Visit a local family’s home, tour their village, and pick fresh ingredients before cooking your meal in a beautiful outdoor setting.
  • Visit the Great Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Cruise past floating villages and observe daily life on the water, from fishing boats to floating schools and markets.

Day 8: Angkor Wat Sunrise and Temple Exploration

  • Begin your day with an early departure to witness the sunrise at Angkor Wat, one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring sites in the world. Explore the temple’s intricate carvings and architecture with your expert guide.
  • Continue your temple exploration by visiting Angkor Thom, home to the famous Bayon Temple with its massive stone faces, as well as the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King.
  • In the afternoon, tour the Ta Prohm temple, where ancient trees have intertwined with the ruins, creating a mystical and atmospheric scene.
  • In the evening, dive into Siem Reap’s vibrant street scene and experience some authentic street food!

Day 9: Village Life and Community Service

  • Spend the day exploring rural life in Cambodia at Kompheim village. Take an ox cart ride through the village, interact with locals, and enjoy a traditional Khmer lunch prepared by a local family. 
  • Participate in a community service project with HUSK, where you’ll work on meaningful tasks such as renovating buildings, establishing sustainable recycling systems, and assisting with local farming efforts. 
  • It’s your last evening and time to reflect on your journey through Cambodia with your Adventure Leader. Share your experiences, discuss what you’ve learned, and consider how the trip has impacted your understanding of the region and its people. 

Day 10: Farewell

  • Today, it’s time for your journey home. As you settle into your seat for the flight, take a moment to reflect on the incredible experiences and lessons you’ve gained during your Learning Adventure in Cambodia.
