Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Spain

  • Touch down in Madrid and be greeted at the airport by an Adventure Leader. They’ll assist with the transfer to your accommodation, and provide some time for check-in. After, come together for a trip briefing to learn about the schedule for the rest of the visit.
  • Next, it’s time to head out into Madrid for a walking tour to see some amazing sights and learn more about the city’s history. Walk through the beautiful Parque del Retiro, the Royal Palace and the Mercado San Miguel.
  • This evening, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner with some traditional Spanish tapas.

Day 2: Museums and Roman cities

  • Dive right into the rich history of Spain at the Museom Arqueologico Nacional. Explore the galleries full of rich archaeological material and learn more about Roman Hispania.
  • Travel just outside of modern Madrid to the Roman city of Complutum, begun during the reign of Emperor Augustus. Take in the city’s public buildings, impressive villas, and beautiful mosaics.

Day 3: Segobriga and Carranque

  • It’s time to hop on your private coach and head out of Madrid to the Archaeological Park of Segobriga – a site that has been a National Monument since 1931! One of the best preserved Roman cities on the peninsula, Segobriga offers the chance to experience what life might have been like in an ancient provincial city.
  • Next up is the Archaeological Park of Carranque. Dating from the 4th century CE, this splendid villa that is thought to have belonged to the family of Emperor Theodosius I. You cannot miss the spectacular mosaic floors that still impress visitors today.
  • After a long day exploring the wonders of Roman Spain, it’s time to relax with an evening of delicious food and traditional flamenco dancing!

Day 4: Segovia

  • Head to the beautiful UNESCO town of Segovia for the day. Marvel at the awe-inspiring aqueduct that still towers 28m above the modern plaza below! Visit the town’s museum to learn more about the aqueduct.
  • Enjoy some free time to explore, relax with an ice-cream and pick up some souvenirs of your time in Spain.

Day 5: Travel home

  • Today marks the end of your Classics school trip to Madrid. It’s time to head back to the airport and bid ‘adios!’ to Spain.
