Sample Itinerary

Day 1: The Eiffel Tower

Morning/Afternoon

Start your French adventure off, as you arrive at Gare du Nord/Charles de Gaulle airport and hop on public transport to your hotel. On the way, your Learning Adventure guide will give you some fascinating general knowledge about the area and get you up to speed with trip rules and safety guidelines.

Once you’ve checked into the hotel, it’s time to start exploring! Take a boat ride along the River Seine, where you’ll stop off to climb the Eiffel Tower. Look out onto the city you’re about to explore and pick out some of the places you’ll be visiting.

Evening

Enjoy the view of the iconic Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero esplanade at sunset and watch it twinkle as it lights up. End the day feasting on a well-earned welcome dinner and come together for a trip briefing to get you ready for the week’s adventures.

Day 2: The National Archives

Morning

Kick the day off with a historical city tour. Stop off at all of Paris’ must-sees to learn about the social and political upheaval during the French Revolution.

Afternoon

Visit the National Archives, which dates back to the French Revolution, to see original copies of famous documents you’ve studied. It’s home to the Declaration on the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, a human rights document from the French Revolution.

Evening

Indulge at dinner in the Montparnasse area. Then, go up the Montparnasse Tower to watch the sun set over a panoramic view of the city.

Day 3: WW2 Paris

Morning

You’ve studied World War Two, but it’s crucial to get a sense of what it was like for real people. Today, you’re listening to a talk led by a WW2 veteran’s grandson, who will share his relative’s experiences and memories. Then, embark on a tour of some important WW2 sights. Imagine what life was like for a Parisian during the war.

Afternoon

Get cultural as you play a game of pétanque (a French game similar to bowls) on the banks of the River Seine. After dinner, explore the area of Montmartre and watch the sunset from the Sacré Coeur Basilica.

Day 4: Chateau d’If, Marseille

Morning

Jump on a short flight and check into your accommodation in Marseille. Get acquainted with the city with a walking tour, in which you’ll learn about the history of migration here. Then, take part in a Learning Adventure scavenger hunt!

Afternoon

Head to the Chateau d’If, the fortress turned prison that inspired Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo.

Day 5: Arles Day Trip

Morning

Today, you’re in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage Town. Explore the area and examine all the town’s historic architecture. You can still see traces of Roman architecture, there to remind you of the time when Arles was an influential power in Ancient Roman. Roman emperors used to use it as headquarters during military campaigns!

Afternoon

Once you’ve refuelled with a picnic at Jardin Hortus, visit some of the locations that inspired Van Gogh. He loved Arles’ landscapes and produced 300 works of art in his time there.

Evening

Make your way back to Marseille where you can explore the Notre-Dame Basilica and admire the spectacular panoramic views of the city.

Day 6: Homebound

It might be home time, but it’s not over. France’s fascinating history will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
