Sample Itinerary

Day 1: The Eiffel Tower

Morning/Afternoon

Start your French adventure off, as you arrive at Gare du Nord/Charles de Gaulle airport and hop on public transport to your hotel. On the way, your Learning Adventure guide will give you some fascinating general knowledge about the area and get you up to speed with trip rules and safety guidelines.

Once you’ve checked into the hotel, it’s time to start exploring! Take a boat ride along the River Seine, where you’ll stop off to climb the Eiffel Tower. Look out onto the city you’re about to explore and pick out some of the places you’ll be visiting.

Evening

Enjoy the view of the iconic Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero esplanade at sunset and watch it twinkle as it lights up. End the day feasting on a well-earned welcome dinner and come together for a trip briefing to get you ready for the week’s adventures.

Day 2: River Fieldwork

Morning

Take a walk along the River Seine to collect fieldwork evidence of erosiondeposition and transport.

Afternoon

After a morning of hard work, take a city tour to stop off at all of Paris’ must-sees, like the Notre DameLatin QuarterPlace de la Concordela ConcergerieAvenue des Champs-ElyséesArc de TriompheSainte ChapellePlace VendômeLe pont de l’Alma (Lady Di memorial) and Port de La Bourdonnais.

Evening

Dine in the Montparnasse area and go up the Montparnasse Tower at sunset for panoramic views over the City of Light.

Day 3: Hydroponic Farming

Morning

Head for a farm hidden under the streets of Paris, located in an abandoned parking garage. Learn about the agricultural technique, hydroponic farming, in which greens are grown under LEDs in nutrient-rich water without sunlight or soil.

Afternoon

Make your way to Lyon.

Evening

Introduce yourself to Lyon with a delicious dinner.

Day 4: Puy de Domes Volcano

Morning/Afternoon

Drive to the Puy de Domes volcano, one of the youngest lava domes in the region. Challenge yourself to hike to the summit. Observe cinder cones and treat yourself with views of other volcanoes along the way. After the hike, cool off by swimming in the beautiful Lac d’Aydat.

Evening

It’s been an active day, so feast on a classic French dish in a boucherie for dinner.

Day 5: Grotte de Choranche Cave

Morning

Drive to Grotte de Choranche, a magnificent hidden cave south of Lyon. Learn more about the waters of the underground rivers and lakes, rock formations and stalactites.

Afternoon

Head back to the city centre to learn more about Lyon’s history and to visit its famous landmarks.

Evening

It’s your last night, so celebrate your trip with a final dinner.

Day 6: Home Time

It might be home time, but it’s not over. France’s fascinating geography will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
