Day 1: The Eiffel Tower

Morning/Afternoon

Start your French adventure off, as you arrive at Gare du Nord/Charles de Gaulle airport and hop on public transport to your hotel. On the way, your Learning Adventure guide will give you some fascinating general knowledge about the area and get you up to speed with trip rules and safety guidelines.

Once you’ve checked into the hotel, it’s time to start exploring! Take a boat ride along the River Seine, where you’ll stop off to climb the Eiffel Tower. Look out onto the city you’re about to explore and pick out some of the places you’ll be visiting.

Evening

Enjoy the view of the iconic Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero esplanade at sunset and watch it twinkle as it lights up. End the day feasting on a well-earned welcome dinner and come together for a trip briefing to get you ready for the week’s adventures.

Day 2: Sorbonne University Lecture

Morning

Start your day with a city tour to stop off at all of Paris’ must-sees, like the Notre DameLatin QuarterPlace de la Concordela ConcergerieAvenue des Champs-ElyséesArc de TriompheSainte ChapellePlace VendômeLe pont de l’Alma (Lady Di memorial) and Port de La Bourdonnais.

Afternoon

It’s going to be an intellectual afternoon. Head for Sorbonne University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, to take a tour and take notes at a lecture on a subject of your choosing.

Evening

Relax with a stand-up comedy routine in English, performed by a French comedian.

Day 3: Language & Politics

Morning

Visit the Académie Francaise, the home of the first French dictionary. Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the institution, taking into account the modernisation of the French language.

Afternoon

Delve deeper into the political climate of modern France. Listen to a Gilet Jaune (part of the yellow vest movement) or En Marche member as they talk about the current political situation in France.

Evening

Indulge at dinner in the Montparnasse area. Then, go up the Montparnasse Tower to watch the sun set over a panoramic view of the city.

Day 4: French Slang

Morning

Start the day with an activity even the teachers can learn from! Get involved in a French slang lesson. Learn about the origins of verlan, the slang which now has huge influence on today’s language, much to the dismay of language purists at the Académie Française!

Afternoon

It’s a quick 2-hour journey to Lyon. Once you’re checked into your accommodation, take a city tour to see the highlights of Lyon. Learn about how it’s developed a reputation as the capital city of gastronomy.

Evening

Lyon boasts some great food, like Lyonnaise potatoes and saucisson de Lyon. Try it tonight!

Day 5: Journalists & Debating

Morning

Visit the printing room of the regional daily newspaper, ‘Le Progrès’. Hear from a journalist about what it’s like to be a French news reporter.

Afternoon

Get engaged in a French language lesson, tailor-made for a variety of levels. Then, get involved in – or just watch – a debate at Café de la Cloche, a centuries old café famous for inviting people to speak and debate.

Day 6: French Speaking Skills

Morning

Test out your language skills as you haggle for some last-minute souvenirs at the Lyon markets.

Afternoon

Try out some acting in a French improv class. This is a great opportunity to practise spontaneity, fluency and thinking on your feet before those oral speaking exams!

Evening

You’ve tried some delicious French food this week. Now it’s time to learn it so you can take it home. Roll up your sleeves for a French cooking class to learn how to make a famous French dish. Once you’ve feasted on your dinner, put your feet up at a traditional French cinema to enjoy a local film.

Day 7: Au Revoir!

It might be home time, but it’s not over. France’s incredible culture and fascinating language will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
